Influencing Change

Reading and writing stories is like you are escaping from society. I am going to explore how popular fiction can spark reality. An example of this would be Forrest Gump.

Forrest Gump is a 1994 American-drama film based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The Story is about a simple yet backwards man who comes from Alabama and follows his journey through life. He comes across many high, and low moments. Forrest sees himself subsequently in the middle of every historical and popular even from the 1960’s to the 1980’s. He meets historical figures, influences popular culture.

This film creates such an influential change in society because of the plot itself. He was looked at like he was a “local idiot”. But who would have thought that he could make such a difference in the world? The entire story line has the whole world doubting Forrest, but he powers through and proves everybody wrong. Forrest’s actions land him a meeting with the president, an enrollment into the military, a medal of honor and that is just part of the list. He shows audiences that treating people equally and respectfully will always have a positive outcome and not listening to the negative influences in life is helpful.

Overall, Forrest Gump is a great example of fictional inspiration to society. Every being is unique in their own way and encounter different unique situations.

The Archetype

In almost every work of fiction there are heroic figures. There are many different characteristics that all of these figures have in common. In my essay, I’m going to discuss each of these characteristics.

A lot of heroes have very serious personalities. Sometimes they have these personalities because the hero has gone through a bad event in their life which has caused them to become this character, but also made them become very serious. This sort of characteristic is usually changed throughout the scenes of a story as the hero meets new people and usually develops some sort of interest. While they usually change their minds about people by the end of the story, this is a characteristic shared by many different heroes.

Strength is a very common trait with heroes. A hero is supposed to be a character that can take whatever comes at them. A lot of these heroes are very physically strong, Some mentally. Like Superman or Thor and they can take hits and fight their enemies. The heroes that are mentally strong are able to keep fighting no matter how hard it may be. If they fall down, they get back up again.

Heroes have to be very brave  otherwise they would not be able to do the things that a hero normally does. Being brave is doing tasks that normally people would never do.

This has been my essay on some of the traits and characteristics heroes have. All heroes have things in common.

The Trade Off

In my essay I am going to tell you why I would do a trade off with the character Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead. Even though swapping places with a character from The Walking Dead may not seem ideal, there are reasons why I would. The reasons why I would do this trade off are because Rick is a very intelligent and skillful person, he is good with people, and he is a great leader.

The first reason why I would do a trade off with Rick is because he is very intelligent. If Rick and the others are ever in a bad situation he always has an idea on what to do or where to go. One of the many skills he has is that knows how to use weapons such as knifes and guns. He can use them very well. Another skill he has is that he can build structures such as shelters. Being intelligent and skillful is a very useful trait to have. Especially when you are in a zombie apocalypse.

The second reason on why I would do this trade off is because he is very good with people. Rick is a problem solver. If two people are fighting or arguing, he knows how to calm them down. If he ever comes across another person that is looking for help, he always asks them important questions. When there is conflict, he also knows when to calm or when to be aggressive. In a situation where he is calm, this will make the other people calm down. When he is aggressive, it makes the person think twice before they do something stupid.

The third reason on why I would do this trade off is because he is a great leader. As previously mentioned, he is intelligent, has very useful skills, problem solver, and can calm people down. These are all good traits to have when being a leader. Being as good as a leader as Rick makes people look at you differently than others.

I have stated and explained all the reasons on why i would do this trade off. These reasons are because Rick is a very intelligent and skillful person, he is good with people, and he is a great leader.

The 5 Best TV Shows

In today's world, television has a very large impact on our lives. There are a lot of people who watch television, but they sometime ask "What's a good show to watch?'' Well I am going to tell you the top five best TV shows in my opinion.

#5 Band of Brothers- This show is about the story of Easy Company of the US Army 101st Airborne division and their mission in WWII Europe from Operation Overlord through V-J Day. Even though this show has only one season, it is full of action. If you are interested in war related films than this is the show for you. In my opinion, this is one of my favorite shows.

#4 South Park- This show follows the misadventures of four irreverent grade-schoolers in the quiet, dysfunctional town of South Park, Colorado. This show is not an age appropriate show, so if you are under age you should not watch it. If you enjoy shows with comedy, then this show would be for you. In the 23 seasons of this show, you with laugh every minute of every episode.

#3 Mr Bean- Life is a difficult challenge for Mr Bean, who despite being a grown adult, has trouble completing even the simplest of tasks. Thankfully, his perseverance is usually rewarded, and he finds an ingenious way around the problem. This is one of the funniest shows I have ever watched. If you want to have laugh then all you have to do is watch this show.

#2 Hell On Wheels- Cullen Bohannon, a former soldier and slaveholder, follows the track of a band of Union soldiers, the killers of his wife. This brings him to the middle of one of the biggest projects in US history, the building of the transcontinental railroad. After the war years in the 1860's, this undertaking connected the prospering east with the still wild west.

#1 The Walking Dead- This show is about the Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes who leads a group of survivors in a world overrun by the walking dead. Fighting the dead, fearing the living. If you like action and adventure, then this show is for you. If you fear zombies, then you should not watch this show by yourself.

Time Capsule

The first item I would place in the time capsule would be my iPhone 5c. I would put this in the time capsule because it is one of my personal items. It would also show how the technology has changed over a 100 year time period. The Service Providers may have also changed or there may be new Providers. It is one of the biggest ways for people to communicate today.

The second item I would place in the time capsule would be a maple leaf. I would put this in the time capsule because it is one of the biggest Canadian symbols. It is the symbol on the Canadian flag.

The third item I would place in the time capsule would be a photo of Miramichi. I would put this in the time capsule because it is familiar area to me. In 100 years from now the area of Miramichi may have changed a lot. It could be a big community. It may also be a smaller community too.

The fourth item I would place in the time capsule would be every Fast and Furious movie. I would place this movie series in the time capsule because Fast and Furious is one of my favourite movies. In 100 years from now there may be a lot more Fast and Furious films. As of now there are seven.
The last item I would place in my time capsule would be photo of myself. I would put this in the time capsule because the people who open it would have an idea on who I am. I would have a little note on the back of the photo. On the note, it would have my name on it. It would also say where I was from.
Letter:
Dear Future residents:
Hello, my name is Jayden, I am a15 year old boy. If you are reading this letter, it has been 100 years since I have written it. I live in Quarryville New Brunswick along with my family. My mom Priscilla, step dad Denis, and my brother Jacob. My favorite things to do is go four wheeling, go hunting, go camping and hang out with my friends.

Some recent things that have happened in 2016 is that recently in Paris, France, and also Germany there has been terrorists attacks that killed hundreds of people all together. It seems as if we are always fighting against each other. I hope by the time you are reading this that there has not been any recent terrorists attacks. If we keep fighting each other, in the end we are going to destroy ourselves. Another thing that has recently happened was the Queen Elizabeth turned 90 years old. Since 2016 happened, nothing much has really happened. That is what life is like now in 2016. A lot of things had probably changed, but this is just the sight on life in 2016.
Sincerely,
Jayden

Lucas The Lion

Lucas is a lion, who likes to roam around in the warm weather.

Lucas looks different from the other lions. This makes him shy towards the other lions.

He does not like to play with the others because he is scared of being teased.

One day when he is out, he comes along another lion named Lucy.

Lucy is a very friendly lion, but she is new and wants to make friends.

Lucy comes up to Lucas and says “Hi, my name is Lucy! What’s your name?”

Lucas hesitates “Umm L-Lucas”

Lucy smiles and say “What a nice name!”

“Thanks” said Lucas

“How is your day?” asked Lucy

“Good” Lucas replied

They talk for a while about their day.

Lucy then says “I am new around here and I am trying to make new friends.” “Would you want to be my friend?” she asked.

Lucas is nervous at first and does not know what to say.

Lucas is finally able to speak and says “Yes Lucy! I will be your friend”

Lucas and Lucy became friends and walk to the park to play with the other lions.

After making his first friend, he then realizes that it is not hard to make friends.

Tips on Writing Stories for Children

Some of the information I found particularly helpful was the tips on how to brainstorm ideas for your story. While your brainstorming you should think hard on what your going to write about. Another  piece of information I found that was important and helpful was developing your characters. The main character or characters is one of the most important pieces of work in your story. There is some information that is similar to what I wrote about in my last blog post. One thing is that all the stories are age appropriate, has pictures, has flair, and has a main character. The information I found helpful on how to write dialogue was, having to reveal the characters and their relationships with each other. Another fact was to move the story forward with the dialogue you have. I think that you should be marked on if your story is easy to follow and understand, if the headline makes you want to read it, and if there is any grammar or spelling errors.

Analyzing Children Stories

The three stories I read were:
- The Little Gingerbread Man- by Carol Moore
- Invisible Alligators- by Hayes Roberts
- The Wiener Dog Magnet- by Hayes Roberts

In the story The Little Gingerbread Man, the main character is a non-human called The Gingerbread Man. There is some dialogue throughout this story. It is between the children and gingerbread men. This dialogue helps develop the situation by showing how the gingerbread man does not want to get eaten. The conflict in this story is the gingerbread man trying not to get eaten. The conflict is resolved by the gingerbread's friends save him. I think that most kids would understand this conflict.

The next story I read was Invisible Alligators. The main character is a young monkey named Sari. There is dialogue through this story. It is between Sari and the Invisible Alligator. The dialogue helps explain what the main character is doing. The conflict is that the alligators are causing trouble. The conflict is resolved when Sari catches the alligators.

The last story I read was The Wiener Dog Magnet. The main character is a little monkey named  Kiki Marie. In this story there is no dialogue. The problem in this story is that Kiki bought a magnet that was a wiener dog. When she was walking she then stated to realize that the magnet stuck to actual wiener dogs. There were also two alligators trapped in the rapids. This is resolved when she threw all the dogs across the river. The dogs stayed together due to the magnetism. The alligators had been saved.

These three stories have some similarities but not many. One similarity is that all three stories have a main character that is non-human. Another similarity is that in every story, any conflict that happens, is resolved. I think all of these stories would be appealing to young children because the stories are easy to read and follow the plot.

How-To Article Review

I am doing my how-to article review on How to Charge Your Electric Car. Characteristics that makes a good how-to article is when it supplies a lot of details on what to do. Another good characteristic that makes a how-to article good is when it explains every step very clearly. If this how-to article had more steps, I think it would improve it. Overall this a very good article. A statement that I think should be part of the rubric should be "Add as much detail as possible".

  • There are no more than three grammatical or spelling errors in the article. 5
  • The article has a catchy headline that makes you want to read it. 5
  • The article has a purpose, explaining benefits to the reader. 4
  • The steps in the article are clear and easy to understand. 5

I gave this article a 19/20. This article was very understanding and easy to read. It could have some more details on how to do what.

Movie Review on Finding Forrester

“Finding Forrester” is Columbia film that was produced in 2000. The main character in the film is Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown) and William Forrester (Sean Connery). The film is about a sixteen year old that goes to a private school. He also plays basketball and is very good at it.

The film was about a sixteen year old boy, named Jamal Wallace. He attended a public school in the Bronx. He was later offered to got to a private school. Later on in the film, Jamal began to have conflict with his professor (Professor Crawford). Professor Crawford did not believe that Jamal’s writing was actually his writing. Jamal has a lot of interest in playing basketball and is also a very good player, so he joined the team at the private school.

The character William Forester, reminded me of the character Boo Radley in the film “To Kill a Mockingbird”. I found these characters alike because they both preferred to stay inside. It was like they both were scared to meet people and make new friends. I also compared Jamal Wallace to Jem and Scout. These characters are alike because Jamal is trying to understand why he is being judged by Professor Crawford. He realized it was because of his color. In “To Kill a Mockingbird” Jem and Scout were trying to understand why Tom Robinson was judged because of his color.

“Finding Forrester” is a great film. The feature I liked best in this film was the acting. When I watch a film, the thing that catches my attention first is the actors. In this film, the actor that caught my attention first was Jamal because he was very expressive about himself and his feelings. One of the other actors that caught my attention was William Forrester. Overall I thought this film was great and would recommend it to anyone.

In this film the theme is the gift of friendship. This is the theme because Jamal and William were the two most unlikely people to become friends. At the end of the film they were like family. This film was great.

The Boys Are Back

http://www.cinemablographer.com/2014/04/review-trailer-park-boys-dont-legalize-it.html

The movie review I read was on Trailer Park Boys Don't legalize It. I have watched this movie many times. Even though I watched it almost 20 times, it is just as funny watching it as if it was the first time.

The review I read was very descriptive about the film. This review gave many points about the film without spoiling it. It described the plot of the films storyline also. Another thing I liked about the review is that it said what position each character is in and how they are dealing with things. Overall I think that this film review was very well written and very descriptive.

My favourite genre of film would have to be comedy and action. I have always enjoyed watching hilarious films along with action packed films. I think that I could do a film review on the film Men In Black because that film has scenes with comedy and action.

Writing Inventory Reflection

If there is a day when I have spare time, I do not like to write. On my spare time I like to go on my phone and talk to my friends, watch TV, drive my fourwheeler or dirt bike, and a lot of other stuff.

I don’t think that I have a favourite writer because I never read any books. There are certain books I enjoy reading. Those types of books are Action, Adventure, and Comedy Novels.

The types of writing that comes easy for me are writing essays. This type of writing comes easy for me because I find that my ideas are easier to think of. I also find that if I write an essay piece, my mark is always higher than other types of writing pieces. The types of writing that is hard for me is persuasive, poetry, and narrative writing. When I write I get my ideas from myself and what I do in my life. I also get help for my ideas from teachers too. I am currently not working on any pieces of writing because we just started a new term. This is my only piece of writing I have been working on. There are no specific pieces of writing I am proud of, mostly because I do not believe that I am a good writer. When I write a piece, I usually only make one draft copy and two if needed. I do not have any strengths as a writer. My weaknesses as a writer is that I am a very bad speller and I am very weak in editing my pieces over. My favourite thing to write about would be the things that I have done when I was a kid or the new things I do now. My goals for a writer in this semester is to try my hardest and pass.

Day In a Village

It is a warm summer day in the village. It is a little bit after 3:00pm on a Friday, kids are peacefully strolling home from school now. They are giggling about the conversation they are having, and talking about what they are going to be doing over the weekend. As I sit here on my porch, I see a married couple out for a ride on their horse and buggy. This makes me remember about when my wife was around, and when we would go for rides on sunday evenings. I miss doing those things. They are traveling around the village enjoying the very nice weather. The horses are noisy as they walk down the gravel packed road. I can also hear the squeal of the wheels on the horse buggy. It is a very peaceful sound. As I watch them go down the road I keep thinking about how we would enjoy going on the horse and buggy in the springtime. It is not a very busy day today. Most people are at home enjoying the nice warm weather and getting ready for the weekend. I am going to enjoy this weekend. I get to go visit my family members.
